Inside the lives of hoarders

Hoaders- kaki kumpul barang

Imagine not having any guests to your house for 12 years,
Can't remember how your bedroom furniture looks like,
having a trail in to your bed in between mountains of clothes,
NO family dinner,
your children dont visit their old home,
your grandchildren have never stayed over at your house,
not able to park your car in the garage for the last 15 years,
and have your 1000 sq feet garage filled with garbage????

Gosh, I just can imagine, but this is the the thing I saw on Oprah 2 days ago.

Its about this couple who have this habit of hoarding up to a level the house has become a health hazard and affecting their family relationship. Having had enough with their parents problem, the children took a video of the condition of the house and sent it to Oprah in the hope of improving their lives especially their parents. Since the kids had moved out for more15 years, the parents have been buying and keeping stuff in their house up to a point where it filled up a 10,000 sq feet storage area! NOT a single room in the house is left empty, all filled up to the brim.
The mother had to make a choice: her family or clutter! She finally gave in and as a reward, Oprah helped her to give her a new-improved home, clutter free and with more SPACE!. Now they can even have dinner at the dining table, after 12 years!

I can't imagine a life like this. However I did learn a few tips from the expert form the show.

1. You should own your stuff not your stuff own you.
2. Stop buying things you already have or you don't need to have.
3. Learn to let go of things. If its broken, don't keep it, throw it out.
4. Start small, if you have so many stuff, everyday fill up a black bag for the things you don't want and another for the things you want to donate.
5. Don't hold on to clothes you don't fit in anymore. Let it go, if you ever come back to that size, get a new one. Fashion changes!
6. Once you have organized all your stuff, make sure you put the things back to where they belong. NO more mess, no more losing stuff which means, no more buying NEW stuff!

Rasa-rasa Oprah nak tak datang rumah aku bagi face-lift, tapi kat rumah aku senang kerja...barang tak banyak hahaha, kosong jer!
